Teach Kids About Pet Care & Safety Using Stuffed Animals

Teaching kids how to properly care for a pet is so important.  As many of you know, Icy and I are a Therapy Dog team.  We make several different kinds of visits throughout our community through Bideawee, in Long Island NY.  Bideawee is near and dear to my heart, not only because Icy and I do our Therapy Dog work through them but because I got my first dog, Ginny from them. Having Ginny in our

Are These Toxic Pet Dangers Lurking In Your Yard?

The use of insecticides and pesticides has increased so much over the years, both in residential neighborhoods and public areas like parks.  These are the places we play with and walk our dogs!  Do we have a false sense of security when it comes to these potentially toxic chemicals and our pets?

I don't want any poisonous stuff ending up in my garden!

When Should Your Pet See The Veterinarian?

Your pet may be a puppy or kitten, or perhaps you've just adopted an adult dog or cat.  If your pet isn't sick or injured, when should you take them in to see the Veterinarian?  It's not always easy to know when or how often you should vaccinate your pets or take them to the Vet for physical examinations.  PETCO has shared a helpful Info-Graphic to use for reference!

Don't Let Fleas and Ticks Feast On Your Dog #12Bravecto

Not long ago, I found something on my dog that freaked me out.  Although I regularly use flea and tick prevention for my dogs, I must have missed a month or been a few days late in giving them their monthly dose of topical flea and tick protection.

My Siberian Husky, Icy, communing with nature in the backyard, but she could be communing with fleas and ticks too!

Extended Flea & Tick Protection In A Tasty Chew #12Bravecto

We love the great outdoors, and so do our dogs!  We like nothing better than taking our dogs on outdoor adventures like hiking, camping, or going to beach.  They love to run through bushes, swim in lakes & ponds, hunt for critters in tall grass, and roll around in wet sand by the ocean.

Icy loves to lay in tall grasses but she's not alone in the grass, pesky fleas and ticks also love tall

Knick Knack Paddy Whack, Why I Won't Give My Dog A Bone

KNICK KNACK PADDY WHACK DON'T GIVE THE DOG A BONE!!

We often hear how dangerous rawhide can be for dogs.  If the dog swallows a sizable piece of rawhide it can get stuck in their esophagus, intestines, or elsewhere along their digestive tract.  There is also the potential for bacterial contamination due to the processing of many rawhide products.

Add The Health Benefits Of Pumpkin to Your Pet's Diet

I've been adding healthy pumpkin to my dogs' diets for quite some time.  In the Fall, when I'm feeling particularly ambitious, I make pumpkin mush from our Halloween pumpkin for Icy and Phoebe.  Most of the time however, I buy canned pumpkin at the grocery store for them.

Both my dogs love pumpkin!  Pumpkin is beneficial to both dogs and cats

As of April 6th, 2016 it is mandatory to microchip all dogs in the UK (United Kingdom; England, Scotland, and Wales).  Ireland has also adopted mandatory microchipping.  Could the U.S. be far behind in enacting similar legislation?

Want Your Senior Dog To Be Sharp As A Tack? #BrightMind

When we adopted Phoebe in 2011, the shelter estimated her age to be approximately 3 years old.  It feels like in the blink of an eye suddenly she's 8 years old!  My girl is a senior dog!

What do you mean I'm a Senior Dog!?  I think these glasses just make me look old.

Phoebe was always a feisty little dog and very smart, but in the last year I've noticed some changes in her.  It's like she

A Tale of Two Spay Neuter Tragedies

I wasn't going to write another post on the importance of spaying and neutering pets but some recent conversations have compelled me to do so.

February was SPAY/NEUTER AWARENESS MONTH. All month long people were blogging about the importance of spaying and neutering pets, but not everyone agrees and not everyone is concerned about not spaying and neutering pets.

One of many unneutered dogs
